Regular thinning of woodland generates income and maximises the yield from the remaining trees with an increased return over the longer term. Removing the poorer quality, diseased or dying trees providing better conditions for development of the remaining stock and use of low impact harvesters and forwarders ensures minimal disruption to surrounding trees and habitat.
Thinning also opens up the canopy increasing light and warmth on the woodland floor which in turn encourages biodiversity, improving the habitat for woodland animals and game.
